Epson XP-440: temporary black printing with an empty colour
Use Epson’s offered Windows-driver mode for a short time, while keeping every cartridge installed.
1 min readUse this only when Epson’s software offers temporary black printing and the black cartridge still contains ink. It is not a fix for an unrecognised or missing cartridge.
Print a plain-paper job in Windows
- Cancel the failed color job. Keep all cartridges in the printer and load plain paper or an envelope.
- Use the Epson printer driver with Epson Status Monitor 3 enabled.
- Choose Plain Paper (or Plain Paper/Bright White Paper) or Envelope for paper type. Turn borderless printing off and select Black/Grayscale.
- Send the job again. When Status Monitor offers it, choose Print in Black.
