Canon FINE cartridges: clear 1686 or 1688 after replacement
For the listed MG2900 and TS3500 models, a remanufactured cartridge may retain its earlier ink-level reading.
1 min readThis guide covers MG2920/MG2922/MG2924 with PG-245/CL-246 and TS3520/TS3522 with PG-275/CL-276. These two-cartridge printers use a black and a tri-color FINE cartridge. A remanufactured supply can keep its earlier level information.
Disable the affected cartridge’s level monitoring
- Keep the filled replacement installed and the cartridge cover closed.
- When code 1686 or 1688 is shown, hold the printer’s Stop button for at least five seconds, then release it.
- If the other cartridge is also named, follow its prompt separately. The ink monitor is disabled; the display will not reset to full.
- Check your prints. Stop and replace the supply if the output fades or a color disappears.
