Are HP 78A, 83A and 83X interchangeable?
Separate the two toner families and check which printers accept the high-yield 83X.
1 min readHP 78A (CE278A) and HP 83A/83X (CF283A/CF283X) are different cartridge families. Similar casing, black toner or a higher page yield does not make one a replacement for the other.
Match the model first
- 78A / CE278A: examples include LaserJet Pro P1566, P1606dn and M1536dnf.
- 83A / CF283A: examples include M125, M127, M201 and M225 models, subject to the full model and local listing.
- 83X / CF283X: check the exact model’s high-yield option. The M201 and M225 families accept this higher-yield type; do not assume every 83A printer does.
