A cartridge stopped working after a printer update

Check the firmware and exact error before changing settings or replacing supplies.

1 min read

Firmware is the printer’s own software. Updates can change features, security and the way a printer checks cartridges. HP states that dynamic-security updates on affected models can reject some non-HP chips that previously worked.

Gather the useful details

  1. Record the exact printer model, the error message, and whether the same cartridge worked before the update.
  2. Find the installed firmware version in the printer’s settings or configuration report. Menu names vary by model.
  3. Check that the cartridge is correctly seated and still matches the printer and region.
  4. Send Ink Hero the model, firmware version, cartridge code, order number and error photo so we can check the product’s current compatibility.

Avoid unofficial firmware files or instructions for another model. An update can also address security issues; use the manufacturer’s documentation when deciding which update settings are appropriate.
