HP Instant Ink and ordinary replacement cartridges
Subscription cartridges, HP+ and the cartridges you buy from a retailer have different requirements.
1 min readInk Hero cartridges are ordinary retail supplies. They do not enrol your printer in HP Instant Ink and they are not the subscription cartridges HP sends as part of that plan.
Read the message before replacing anything
- “Cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled” points to an Instant Ink supply or service issue. Check your HP account and contact HP Instant Ink support.
- After cancellation, HP’s subscription cartridges stop working at the end of the billing period, even if ink remains. Replace them with normal supplies approved for your exact printer.
- If using retail cartridges during an active plan, HP says pages are outside the plan only when none of the installed cartridges are Instant Ink cartridges.
- HP+ is a separate printer requirement. Cancelling Instant Ink does not remove HP+ restrictions; check compatibility before ordering a compatible or remanufactured supply.
