Faint toner, streaks or marks on laser prints
Check settings and use the pattern of the fault to identify the next useful step.
1 min readStart with the simple checks
- Print a built-in test or status page. Keep a sample showing the whole page, not just a cropped mark.
- For an evenly faint page, check Toner Save or draft settings and the supply status. Follow your model’s instructions if redistributing toner is recommended.
- Confirm the cartridge is seated and all specified shipping protection is removed.
- On a Brother model with a corona-wire cleaning tab, use the documented cleaning procedure and return the tab to its marked home position. A tab left out of position can create a stripe.
- If a line appears only on copies or scans, check the scanner-glass instructions rather than replacing toner immediately.
Avoid scraping rollers or opening the fuser. Persistent fuser or internal-mechanism faults need the printer manufacturer’s service procedure.
