Epson: a replacement ink cartridge is not recognised

Check the local cartridge number, marked tape and seating before treating it as a chip or firmware fault.

Work through the message

Write down the full error, affected colour and exact model. If the printer was bought overseas, check its cartridge region too.
Check that the new supply is listed for that model. Remove the shipping protection identified on its pack.
Use the printer’s cartridge-replacement command to reach the holder. Reseat the affected cartridge until it clicks; keep fingers away from the chip.
Let any ink charging finish. If the error remains, send us the product number, error photo and whether it began after a firmware update.

For a local example, XP-435 uses 29/29XL supplies. A similarly shaped cartridge carrying a different regional number is not a substitute.
