Find the right cartridges

What does “with chip” mean?

A cartridge chip and the ink or toner inside the cartridge have different jobs.

1 min read

A chip is a small electronic part that communicates with the printer. Depending on the design, it can help identify the supply and store usage information. It does not measure the ink or toner in every cartridge directly.

Check the product before ordering

  • Read the chip information on the exact product page, alongside the printer compatibility list.
  • A “with chip” label describes the supplied cartridge. It is not a promise that every firmware version or printer variant will accept it.
  • Do not assume you must move a chip from the old supply. Follow a transfer procedure only when the exact product instructions explicitly require it.
  • Keep the chip and contact area clean and undamaged; handle the cartridge by its plastic body.
