New HP toner prints blank pages or says Remove Shipping Lock
Check removable cartridge protection before trying a reset.
1 min readA blank page immediately after fitting new HP toner can be caused by shipping protection still covering the cartridge. A Remove Shipping Lock or Remove Shipping Material message is a packing check, not a request to reset the toner counter.
Check the new cartridge
- Switch off, unplug the printer and let hot parts cool. Remove the new cartridge by its handle.
- Check its installation leaflet for removable seals, protective covers, clips or tape. Remove every item it identifies. The colour and position vary between original and compatible cartridges; leave permanent plastic parts in place.
- Check that the cartridge is fully seated, close the cover, reconnect power and print a short test. Keep fingers and cleaning cloths off the exposed imaging drum.
