HP ENVY 5640: install HP 62 or 62XL cartridges
Fit the tri-colour and black cartridges, then let the printer complete alignment.
1 min readThis guide is for the HP ENVY 5640, which uses a black cartridge and a tri-colour cartridge. Use the correct HP 62 or 62XL product listed for your printer; the two cartridges go in different slots.
Replace the cartridge
- Turn the printer on, load plain white paper and open the cartridge access door. Wait until the carriage stops moving.
- Press down gently on the old cartridge to release it, then remove it.
- Unpack the replacement and remove its protective tape. Hold the plastic sides; do not touch the contacts or nozzles or reapply the tape.
- Put tri-colour in the left slot and black in the right. Slide the cartridge in at a slight upward angle and push until it snaps into place.
- Close the access door, confirm the prompt and wait for calibration and alignment.
A remanufactured cartridge may not show an accurate remaining-ink estimate. If the printer refuses to print, keep the exact error message and contact us rather than treating the level display as an installation test.
